ACT Branch Networking Drinks at PwC 14 June 2017

The ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr, the ACBC National President John Brumby and Minister Counsellor Huang Rengang from the Chinese Embassy will join over 100 representatives of companies and government agencies engaged in Australian-Chinese trade and investment at the ACBC’s ACT Branch Networking Drinks on Wednesday 14 June 5.30-7.30pm at PwC, 28 Sydney Avenue, Forrest.

ACBC National President John Brumby said: “ACBC’s ACT Branch was launched in early 2016 in response to the increasing importance of the nation’s capital in the bilateral relationship. As Australia’s capital city, Canberra has enjoyed a strong and enduring relationship with China, epitomised by the Canberra-Beijing Sister City relationship formalised in 2000. Canberra has also hosted many high profile Chinese delegations including Chinese Presidents Xi Jinping, Hu Jintao, Jiang Zemin and most recently, Premier Li Keqiang”.

Apart from government, the wider Canberra region also has many businesses actively engaged in bilateral trade and investment in sectors including education, tourism, property, agribusiness and services. The ACT Government has been a great supporter of these industries through the appointment of the ACT’s first Commissioner for International Engagement, Mr Brendan Smyth.

PwC Partner Ken Maxwell said: "We're excited to be hosting the ACBC’s ACT Branch networking event for companies and government agencies engaged in Australian-Chinese trade and investment.  Over the past few decades, our joint economic prosperity has grown to a point where from a trade perspective we depend on each other more than any other bilateral relationship.  Government leadership has helped to progress economic and cultural bonds between our two nations, and I have great confidence this relationship will continue to grow and prosper with the help of networking events like this.”

Canberra is also the site of ACBC’s premier event, the annual Canberra Networking Day which will be held on 15 June 2017 in Parliament.

This year’s event will feature the launch by Foreign Minister Julie Bishop of an important new report, Partners in Prosperity: The Benefits of Chinese Investment in Australia, which was commissioned by ACBC in partnership with ANZ. The report is available at
