Dear ACBC Members and Friends,
Victoria is pleased to invite you to a forum and luncheon to discuss educating a new wave of secondary students from China.

The event will focus on the likely influx of Year 7 and 8 students enrolling in our schools, how schools should prepare themselves to take advantage of the opportunity and how they should cater for young people arriving from China.

As of March 2014 Federal Government has extended the opportunity for overseas students to study in Australian secondary schools as in year 7 and 8.

This new option is attracting great interest in particular from China, which in turn is creating new benefits and challenges for our secondary schools.
Teenagers at that young age require additional support and care in matters such as guardianship, social issues and culture change. ACBC Vic has invited a panel representing the relevant sectors to debate and discuss whether our industry is ready and capable for this change.

The panel and guest speakers to discuss this relevant topic: 'Educating Secondary School Students from China: The Next Wave' will include:

Chair – Professor On Kit Tam, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor, RMIT University and Chair of  Education sub-committee, ACBC Victoria
Heather Norton, Principal – Firbank Grammar, Brighton
Greg Hughes, Coordinator Chinese Program - Melbourne Grammar School
Imelda Lapthorne, Manager International – Kilmore International, Kilmore
Ivan McKinney, Managing Director – ISA Guardian & Welfare Services
Victor Huang, President of the Victorian Education Agents Association

Guest speaker:
Michael Gavrilidis, Manager - International Education Division of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development

We greatly appreciate and acknowledge BUPA as our major sponsor for this event.
