2006 CHINA ORATION DINNER China's economic transition: risks and rewards for Australia

05 December 2006

Clarendon Ballroom, Langham Hotel, 1 Southgate Avenue, Southbank

Delivered by
The Hon Warren Truss MP Federal Minister for Trade
ACBC is honoured that Australia's new Minister for Trade, the Hon. Warren Truss, will deliver the 2006 China Oration, the most significant event in the Council’s annual calendar. The 2006 Oration has even more than usual significance in that this year is the 10th anniversary of the merger of the original ACBC (first established in 1973) and the then Australia China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCCI) to form the ACBC we know today.
Mr Truss was appointed Minister for Trade in September 2006 after having served for a year as Minister for Transport and Regional Services; and before that for six years as Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. He thus brings considerable experience and insight to the vital Trade portfolio.
The Oration will be the Minister's first major speech in Victoria in his new portfolio, and comes at a time when there are many significant issues on the Australia China agenda, both bilateral and global. It will be therefore an important as well as enjoyable occasion.
