Katherine Yang, King & Wood Mallesons

Katherine is a solicitor in the Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions team in Canberra who specialises in advising clients on all aspects of Australia’s foreign investment regime. She is experienced in the application of the Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Act 1975 across a wide range of transactions, including company takeovers, acquisitions of property, state privatisations and asset sales and purchases.

Through her work, Katherine deals daily with officers of the Foreign Investment Division of the Federal Treasury and officers of the Foreign Investment Program of the Australian Taxation Office in respect to all matters that require foreign investment notification.


Andrew Stewart, Savills

Andrew joined Savills in 2017. His most recent role prior to his appointment as Managing Director of the Canberra office in June 2017 was as Managing Director of CBRE’s Canberra office and the Mulgrave office prior to that in suburban Melbourne. Andrew has the day-to-day responsibility of running the Canberra office along with managing the Agency business.


Before joining CBRE in May 2000 Andrew had 12 years’ experience with Jones Lang LaSalle/Wootton. Andrew is a current board member of the Real Estate Institute of the ACT, a board member of Eastlake Football Club and a past Treasurer and a Commercial Branch committee member of the Real Estate Institute of Victoria. Andrew’s primary field of operation had been in the sales and leasing of industrial property. Since moving to Canberra, Andrew has been involved in a more diverse range of property including commercial office building, medium and high density residential development sites, hotels, caravan parks and industrial property.


Jessica Robinson, Treasury (FIRB)

Jessica Robinson is currently an Acting Principal Adviser in the Foreign Investment Division of Treasury, where she leads a team advising the Government on investment policy as well as major cases before the Foreign Investment Review Board.  Jessica joined Treasury in February 2017 from the Attorney-General’s Department where she worked across a broad range of the Department’s legal and policy areas, including most recently establishing the foreign involvement taskforce which led to the recently announced Critical Infrastructure Centre and proposed legislative reforms, and the development of the Telecommunications Sector Security Reforms. Jessica has previously had legal advising roles in the Australian Communications and Media Authority and in private legal practice.
