30th Anniversary Celebration of
the Melbourne-Tianjin Sister City Relationship
Major Sponsor: ANZ
Description:
The Hon Mr Huang will lead a delegation of government and business leaders to Melbourne in June. He is the highest ranking official in the Tianjin Municipal People’s Government. The office of the Mayor is on the same level of a provincial governor in China and is equivalent to the premier of a state government in Australia. Previously he was Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province and Party Secretary of Ningbo City.
Tianjin is one of the top five most competitive cities in China. The Melbourne Tianjin sister city relationship was the first such relationship between an Australian city and a city in the PRC. Under Huang Xingguo’s leadership, Tianjin has developed rapidly with a 16.5 per cent increase of GDP in 2009 ranking second in China. The Binhai New Area has become the growth engine for north China. It is expected to match the economic miracle achieved by Shanghai’s Pudong in the 1990s and the Pearl River Delta’s development in the 1980s. It is a valuable stepping stone for entering the northern Chinese market.
At the prelunch forum Australian case studies will be presented to the delegation and luncheon guests are welcome to also attend. They are all success stories in Tianjin.
