The Chinese New Year dinner was held on the 12th of February at the Grand Ballroom Crown Perth. This year’s dinner celebrated the Chinese Year of the Snake and was an unprecedented success with more than 720 guests attending, and featured authentic Chinese decoration with a strong Chinese New Year atmosphere, great speeches by influential speakers and fabulous Chinese and Australian performances.

Mr Duncan Calder, National Senior Vice-President and President (WA) of the Australia China Business Council, presented his warm welcome at the beginning of the dinner, followed by a New Year toast  by Mr Liu Yutong, the Deputy Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Perth. The Hon Norman Moore MLC, Minister for Mines and Petroleum, representing the State Government; and the Hon Ben Wyatt MLA, Shadow Treasurer, representing the Opposition, also spoke.  The keynote speeches were delivered by Mr Nev Power, Chief Executive Officer of Fortescue Metal Group and Mr Frank Tudor, ACBC National Chairman.

The performances were another highlight of the evening. We specially flew in one of the top and most popular contestants from last year’s The Voice China—Liu Yue, who sang four songs including both Chinese and English songs. All guests were amazed by her fantastic and talented voice. The second performance was a magic show presented by the great magician and entertainer Matt Hollywood.

All the guests present commented that this was one of the best Chinese New Year dinners put up by the ACBC and was another great opportunity for members to network among themselves and with Chinese companies.
